Overview

According to the bill passed previously, TikTok would have roughly six months to sell to American company and failure to do so will lead to the termination of the app from the US app stores and also from internet hosting services that support it.

There have been some subjective changes to this bill. Instead of a six-month deadline for selling the app, TikTok would now have roughly around nine months to come up with a decision to sell the app.

However, the deadline could be extended for a period of 90 days, by US President Joe Biden, given that there’s been a progress towards a sale.

The vote on TikTok by the US House of Representatives held on April 20 ended by 360 to 58 in favor of the revised divest-or-ban legislation on the app. [House Passes Bill To Ban TikTok In US Amid Votes For Foreign Aids ]

If this bill is passed by the US Senate and then signed by President Joe Biden, then it will lead to a potential threat towards total shut down of the popular social media platform in the United States.
